I managed to convince my dad to take me to Hollywood Video so I could get a the first DVD in a series I've heard sooo much about; Queer as Folk. I drove him there, found it, he paid for it, then we got back in the car. When we got back in he said, "Why did you get that movie again?"
I frowned. "Because it has really high reccommendations, all of my friends love it, and I wanted to see because it interests me." Without another word I got into the car, my stomach slowly, slowly sinking until it settled at my toes. I thought, of all people, my dad would understand my liking of this stuff... He's the one that's always going on about being liberal and how much Bush sucks and stuff... I mean, I was afraid to come out how much I was obsessed with it... but I thought my dad would understand.
Puh, I guess not.
I didn't talk on the drive home, except to ask if we could turn at a certain street. He eventually spoke again. "Back when I lived in Austin..." Pause. "One of my good friends was gay." I nodded a little, not taking my eyes off the road. He slowly started to talk a little bit about it, but I could tell he wasn't entirely comfortable with talking about it... Though I can fathom why. I obviously had no problem with it. He remarked how hard it was for his friend, Pat, to come out back then. I said, "I think it must be really hard for people to come out today, you know with all these marriage issues and the words people use today like 'That's so gay!' and stuff."
My dad disagreed. He said it was harder for people to come out 10, 20, 30 years ago, because it wasn't even talked about. They didn't have books and TV shows... the whole deal was basically 'underground.' I agree with him on that... but it's hard for gays today as well. I think it's just hard period.
Things like this make me so sad... To think that states ban gay marriage... Can you imagine? Finding your girlfriend/boyfriend, the love of your life and only wanting to get married.... Only to be turned away from churches, from STATES. What kind of people deny two lovers marriage?
I heard somewhere that homosexual relationships are more prone to divorce then actual prosperity. I thought, "Well, YEAH! With all the stress this fucking country puts on them, I'd crack too!"
...Ugh... I must cut this short before I get into a full blown rant... >< Then I'll NEVER shut up!

It is hard to come out, no matter what time you live in. It's just the general consensus that you're wrong and it's bad to love someone of the same gender. But people don't know, and they judge harshly what they don't know. It's always been like that. It's sad, and frustrating for people that aren't used to it or new to it, but it's how the world works. Not just with Bush's rule, but everyone's close-mindedness. The thing with California, allowing gay marriage then banning it a day later, it's things like that that make you just wanna.... >< *smacks them*
Like a friend, Rob, says, "It's something you get used to and grow from. If people don't like it you flip them off with a smile, a 'have a nice day' and be on your way. It's your life, so do whatever the hell you want with it. If you wanna screw a guy up the ass then by all means, do it, with flare." ^^;;; Yeah, he's crazy, but a good person. *snicker*

Not only was he gay...he was black. So when everyone found out they were all sad and we had parades for him because it was a hate crime against blacks. Then they found out he was gay...and the sadness stopped. >O And it happened in the park right next to my house too...*checks door again*
